Materials
Material carries memory.
Of place, of time, of use.
At Lucid Dreaming, material choices are guided by stewardship—an attention to origin, consequence, and care. We work primarily with solid wood and natural materials, selected for how they perform, age, and speak over time.
An Homage to What Came Before
Much of our work begins with material that has already lived a life. Urban trees removed from neighborhoods across Southern California are given a second chapter—milled, dried, and reintroduced through furniture and objects.
Their grain holds weather, growth, and adaptation. Marks and irregularities are not erased, but honored as evidence of passage.
Urban Salvaged
Urban salvaged timber forms a meaningful part of our palette. Sourced locally and selected by hand, these woods offer character and figure rarely found in commercial lumber.
Each board is studied and oriented with intention. Variation is expected. No two pieces are alike.
Material-Led Making
Design begins in response to material. Form, joinery, and surface emerge through close observation rather than imposition.
We favor solid construction, thoughtful joinery, and finishes that wear gently—surfaces meant to be touched, used, and lived with.
Local and Regenerative
Whenever possible, we work within local networks—mills, makers, and suppliers who value craft and responsibility. These relationships support a regenerative cycle rooted in place and care..
A Living Palette
Materials change. Sources shift. The work evolves.
This is not a fixed inventory, but a reflection of an ongoing practice—guided by curiosity, restraint, and respect for what the material already knows.
