Lucid Dreaming
Design-and-Build Studio
Southern California
Lucid Dreaming is a material-led design-and-build practice shaped by long experience in creative direction, craft, and material authorship. The work is grounded in a commitment to locally sourced materials, with a particular focus on urban salvaged timber—giving new life to trees removed from Southern California’s built environment.
The studio works across bespoke furniture, object work, and material studies, often in collaboration with architects, interior designers, private clients, and cultural partners. Projects are shaped through process and close attention to material, allowing ideas to be tested, refined, and resolved through making.
Lucid Dreaming operates as a working studio where finished pieces, prototypes, and studies coexist—supporting an active practice rooted in experimentation, care, and long-term thinking. Whenever possible, the studio collaborates with local mills, craftspeople, and suppliers, contributing to regenerative, place-based systems of making.
Lucid Dreaming is led by Esteban Chavez. His work explores the relationship between material, use, and atmosphere—approaching furniture as both object and environment. Each piece reflects a commitment to craft, restraint, and the quiet intelligence of making.
Lucid Dreaming welcomes thoughtful collaboration with members of the design community interested in material, process, authorship, and responsible making.
